ECNALUBMA: 1974 Ford Pathfinder Quadravan E-300 4×4 Econoline Ambulance

When I see a vintage van gussied up as an ambulance, all I can picture is Jack Elam wearing a white lab coat and waving around a giant hypodermic needle as he introduces himself: “I’m Nikolas Van Helsing, professor of proctology and other related
tendencies. A graduate of the University of Rangoon and assorted night
classes at the Knoxville Tennessee school of faith healing.”

JJ McLure’s van may have been a Dodge, but this classic has all the right moves for a cool driver that’ll get you out of tickets left and right….not that I’m recommending you travel anywhere near or above the speed limit in a 1970s van.  Those things had the handling characteristics of three legged moose on a frozen lakebed, but equipped with 4-wheel-drive, this thing should go all kinds of places you wouldn’t expect.

Of course you don’t buy a 1970s Vanbulance to drive on the Nürburgring (or a new Cadillac, so why on earth do they “tune” them there??) — no sir, you drive it for the convenience and class.  Convenience in that you can’t park in the red zone while loading up a pallet of bricks from your local Low’s Despot mega-mart, and class…well, that is a thing hard to define, but you know it when you see it.
