The 996 generation 911 threw away 40 years of 911 tradition by using a newly introduced water cooled engine. Unfortunately the type 996 engine is known for rear main seal issues, cracked blocks and is not an easy engine to overhaul whatsoever. The orignial flat-6 in this one has been replaced with a GM LS3 V8, 6.2 liters of all-alloy ‘Merican goodness that puts out 430 horsepower without resorting to forced induction or overhead cams. GM’s LS lineup uses displacement and brute force to make horsepower look free.
This 996 started out as a all-wheel-drive C4 version and has been converted with Renegade Hybrid‘s 996-V8 conversion kit – actually the seller says it was the prototype car and the above picture was from RH’s website.
