Draken Is Still For Sale: 1978 Saab 99 EMS
Many Saab enthusiasts have called and talked with me about buying the Draken, but none have pulled the trigger on a purchase. Time for a price drop — now asking $3000 for this 1978 Saab 99 EMS– click here for the details.
You are tempting me, sorely tempting me…
My wife called my '78 EMS 'the cockroach' but I love the profile, big windows, short hood, big mirrors. And I haven't been going to the gym enough lately, so the manual steering and little steering wheel could be counted a bonus…
As an impartial observer (friend, yes, but I'd rather see Vince keep the car)…I can say this EMS drives much nicer than it looks. There's a direct feel to the steering, the shifter snicks into place nicely, the k-jets are jetting properly, and it makes a rorty sound. Minimal body roll, good visibility, lots of utility….why am I not offering to buy this myself?
CFlo..you nailed it. EMS steering is like driving a sports bus! My only request, as a friend, is keep me away from this car, please. I've got way too many good memories of the utility of this shape and how much fun they are to hustle at speeds faster than you should expect a car of this size to go on off ramps.
I still can't believe this guy designed those wheels.
