Dos and Don’ts: 1998 Lexus SC300

There are a few things I don’t like about this next car. First, it is white…which is a great color for a commercial delivery van or a lawn company truck, but not so good on a sports-coupe. Next, this thing has an aftermarket set of aero-ish parts that might look okay when new, but a few curb dings and they look like crap…so I’m wary of that. And, lastly, I don’t like the wheels. But other than those few complaints, I love the interior, the manual gearbox, and even the de-badged look. Find this 1998 Lexus SC300 offered for $4,950 in New York City via craigslist. Tip from Cory.

Nice. This is a statement car. That statement is, “I deal drugs in this neighborhood.”
This is the car you get when your local dealing has reached a moderate level of success. In a year or two as the enterprise expands beyond a few blocks, you step up to an S-class or Escalade.
Everything about buying a car in New York City sounds like a nightmare.
I always just gave my cars away when I lived in Brooklyn rather than dealing with selling them.
Technically I sold them for a dollar on the bill of sale (can’t remember why but was told that was a good idea)
Oh, and the NYC DMV office down by Wall Street on Greenwich street is great !
I inherited a 1970 Porsche with messed up California paperwork and had it registered in 15 minutes after I walked in.
