Dolphin Camper Conversion: 1983 Toyota Pickup

This next car came in the DT tips line as a “Toyota Dolphin” which reminded me of a (long lost) acquaintance who had made a short list of next potential career moves that included dolphin trainer and rabbi…which always made me wonder what kind of food you’d serve your guests at a dolphin’s briss. Anyway, I was relieved to discover that this wasn’t a rare model of Toyota that I had missed, but a camper shell from Dolphin Camper Company sitting on a Toyota Pickup with 22R power, manual gearbox, and flushable toilet. Find this 1983 Toyota Dolphin conversion Pickup offered for $8000 in Portland, OR via craigslist. Tip from John.

This classic dolphin model is in great condition. With only 82000 miles and fully functional appliances it’s a good catch. I’m only selling it bc I’m moving out of the country and can’t take it with me. The previous owner was a mechanic and took very good care of it.

Looks like this would be loads of fun. I’ve stayed in sketchier Airbnb rentals than this thing. The adobe shack village in a dude’s back yard in Tucson was a lot of fun though definitely not up to code and the restored ’80s camper trailer/Tepee combo in California redone with Mexican blankets was a good time too. Definitely not 5 star accommodations but they were clean and gave us a fun memory and I’ve stayed in nastier regular hotels.
Yuck. Nobody likes a hotel where when you leave, you feel like you’ve been camping.
Not calamari rings, that’s traif. Not the bar mitzvah standard issue mini cocktail wieners, that’s in poor taste. Stick to chopped herring, I’d say.
Looks like a Class C -minus to me.
The battery terminal look kind crusty as does everything else under the hood. The Ronald Reagan sports jacket interior is somewhat off putting….especially the carpet. Too bad….. I’m kinda thinking Apocalypse mobility
