Different: 1987 Ford XR3i Cabriolet

If you aren’t familiar with the Ford XR3i Cabriolet, don’t fret — you are not alone. In fact, I have no idea what I’m looking at; let me take a moment with my favorite non-tracking search engine (duckduckgo) and see what I can find. The fourth generation of Ford’s European Escort was sold from the 1986 through 1992 model years on a front-engine front-wheel drive platform that was mildly upgraded from the 3rd gen model. Today’s Cabriolet (convertible) is the fuel injected XR3i version that features a 1.6 liter CVH (Canted Valve Hemispherical) inline-4 mated to a 5-speed manual. Find this 1987 Ford XR3i Cabriolet offered for $4,000 via facebarf marketsite.

Hi I’m selling my British Ford Escort XR3i convertible. This is a seriously rare car here in the US! It was imported from the UK in 2012 and has been with me here in Arizona since 2016. It is RHD 5 speed manual. This car is a PROJECT. It needs love! It does not currently run. It has a new clutch, new pistons, new water pump, reconditioned head, new bearings, rebuilt alternator, the works. It ran pretty good after the rebuild, but after sitting in storage for a while it runs like crap and I’m wondering if there is an issue with the injection system.
The body has had work done, it has had some welding done and other stuff here and there. The sills could use some repairs in the future. The gas tank needs a repair. One trunk hinge cover is missing.
So it needs work. BUT….. these cars are going up in value across the pond, and there’s only two I know of that exist in the USA, both are in Arizona. This car has a ton of potential but it needs money and time thrown at it. Needs trailering.
