Dieselow: 1984 Ford Escort Wagon

The North American Ford Escort was a pile of miserable steaming…oh…hi. I didn’t expect Ford Escort Owners Club of North America board members to read this website…errr…let me try again. The North American Ford Escort wasn’t as scrumptious as the European Escort, but you don’t really see them on the road anymore. However, I think that perhaps a used diesel example that is in fantastic shape is an interesting car for the driver looking for something purposefully different. Find this 1984 Ford Escort offered for $5,900 in Annapolis, MD via facebarf rocketbook. Tip from Hibs.

I had a chance to look at an escort wagon from this generation about two years ago at the local scrap yard. They were selling it instead of scrapping it as it was in great shape and had most likely been a dingy for an RV setup. Plenty of room in the front seats and great cargo room in the rear. The Rear seats (and more importantly the rear doors) left a lot to be desired. But overall seemed a great setup. The asking price on the one I looked at was just a tad higher than I wanted and the car just a tad rougher looking than the pictures since it was most likely going to a non car person friend with me helping with maintenance.
Drop this car down to $3k and it would start being an intriguing look for a town/camping car. At this price though collectors or Escort enthusiasts only.
There are some cars that really do not reward you at resale for taking good care of them. This is one. It appears to be in great shape, and may be the ultimate trailer car for motor coach RVs. Note: the 2 liter diesel in it is a Mazda designed and produced engine. At sub 4k, I’d be a buyer.
Automatic? Looks like a 5 speed stick.
