Diesel 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI Diesel W211
When you casually mention buying a cheap ($10k) diesel Mercedes-Benz, most people will assume you are picking up some smoke spewing relic from the 80s…but they might be wrong. You could be talking about a car that cost $55k only 10 years ago, and can hit 60 mph in around 7 seconds. Find this 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI Diesel W211 offered for $11,991 located in Long Beach, CA via craigslist.
The W211 generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class was built starting in 2002,
right in the middle of the whole Daimler-Chrysler debacle, so you would be
correct to be wary. However, the E-Class was always the bread &
butter of the Mercedes lineup and didn’t get the same
cheapen-till-they-buy approach of the lowly C-Class, nor the needless
complexity-for-the-sake-of-it mass approach taken on the S-Class, so you
might be able to drive a W211 around for a few years without dipping into your kids college fund.
Powering the E320 CDI is a 3.2 liter turbocharged diesel inline-6 that puts out 204 horsepower and 370 ft-lbs of torque starting at 1600 rpm. The only available transmission from the US market CDI is a 5-speed auto, which will return 30mpg if you go easy on the go-pedal.

@Stan: Appears to be a heavy dose of Prius repellent.
This far exceeds a Prius.. in depreciation and wallet flattening repairs.
The "Prius repellent" comment had to do with the cloud of diesel…..
But I'm sure you knew that. 😉
