Crusty Classic: 1969 BMW 2002

We just featured a crusty BMW 2002 the other day, but this next one is considerably better looking [arguable! -ed. CFlo] and comes with a spare 2002Tii engine/gearbox.  The asking price is higher, but if the paint isn’t totally fried and it is mechanically in decent shape, it could be a sweet deal.  Find this 1969 BMW 2002 offered for $4,250 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

This is another classic roundie, but it features a bumperless “turbo” look up front and a strange set of colored accent stripes on the side.  The car is dirty in the photos, but with a bath this thing could clean up nicely; only an in-person inspection will tell.  This is the difference between a bondo infused hack paint job and some original paint that needs a buff if life/death when it comes to hunting for an ugly driver classic.

The seller doesn’t include any under hood shots, so the assumption is that it has the original carburetor fed 2.0 liter M05 4-banger good for 100 horsepower and 106 ft-lbs of torque.  The seller does include a few fuzzy pictures of what is claimed to be a fuel injected engine from a Tii version — probably worth more to the original owner of the donor Tii than the time it would take to swap into this car.

The picture quality and description is poor, but the telltale zip-tie around the steering column leads me to believe this car was very recently acquired at a public auction.  With the vin you could probably find some online history for this classic.
