Committee Compact: 1977 Oldsmobile Starfire

The 75-80 Oldsmobile Starfire was part of GM’s strategy to saturate the compact market by offering the same car under multiple brands. Built on the H-body platform alongside the Chevy Monza, Pontiac Sunbird, and Buick Skyhawk, the Starfire aimed to blend sporty styling with budget-friendly practicality. In reality, it landed somewhere between underpowered and underappreciated, with forgettable performance and the kind of design that screamed “committee decision.” Find this 1977 Oldsmobile Starfire offered for $11,500 in Mequon, WI via facefire marketmobile. I’d have gone with the unicorn avatar for this one, but I get it.
Just as they say, “it’s more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow”, it’s also more fun to drive the best example of a bad car than the worst example of a good one.
This is the best (and only) Starfire I’ve seen in years.
