Coffee Brake: Money Can’t Buy Happiness, But Can You Rent It?

It’s Friday, which means time for another edition of DT’s Coffee Brake.  Imagine you could take a different sports car on a weekend cruise once a month and not break the bank.  Most people would buy a car, take up valuable garage space, pay insurance and probably just drive it a few times a year.  Instead, why not rent something?  Today we explore the strange phenomenon of personal vehicle rentals on craigslist.  What can you find for rent on your local craigslist?

Here in LA, putting search term rent into craigslist always comes up with some interesting examples, with many folks hoping to rent their car out to Hollywood folks who need it for a movie shoot.  This 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X with 450 horsepower and paddle shifters would certainly be a fun car for a weekend trip for $200/day.

If not the Lancer, what about this 2014 Chevrolet Corvette convertible offered for $399/day from some small time rental outfit.  Expect to pay a bunch of extra small fees from a place like this that suddenly add up to the cost of buying a C4 Vette.

Finally, if going fast isn’t your thing, what about cruising around in this huge 1971 Cadillac Eldorado drop top for $250 a day?  Green is the color of money, right?
