Classic Mopar: 1965 Dodge Custom 880

Todays next feature is a vintage Dodge Custom 880, which sat near the top of Dodge’s full-size lineup, below the new-for-1965 Monaco but above the regular Polara. The 1965 redesign moved Dodge away from the wilder Virgil Exner years and into the cleaner, more formal Elwood Engel era: slab sides, crisp roofline, stacked visual mass, and enough chrome to make restraint seem suspicious. Power should come from a 383 cubic inch with a 4bbl carburetor, good for 315 SAE gross horspower mated to a 2-speed torqueflight auto. This isn’t a bad way to get into a rad old muscle car from the year that marked the pinnacle of the automobile. Let’s see if my third attempt to reply avoids getting flagged. This car would have an A727 three speed automatic. Mopar skipped two speed autos.
