Classic German: 1985 BMW 535i E28

With the current rise in prices for “cool” cars, I wonder how many more years will the E28 generation BMW 5-series be as affordable? The E28 (1981-1998) offers a purity of driving experience undulled by electronic power steering, stability control, traction control or any number of electronic nannies found in modern cars…and they have a grill that isn’t hideous like a new BMW grill. Find this 1985 BMW 535i E28 offered for $5,200 in Downey, CA via craigslist.

Looks like a winner and a great highway tourer. The period-correct wheels are really the cherry on this sundae. The fact that they’re ARE and not BBS is perfect. It tells everyone, “I’m stylish, but I’m not a yuppie.”
Makes me want to retire and invent impossible errands. “I’m headed out for a good 5c cigar, left-handed spanner and a pack of red pistachios.” Am I whining if I ask whether it’s feasible to swap in a stick and what color I should paint it?
