Cheap And Classy: 1972 Ford Ranchero

The Ford Ranchero was Ford’s version of the El Camino — and it offered a decent combination of car driving capability with the utility of a pickup in the same Monday morning up front, Friday night out back as a mullet. Some scoff at the awkward proportions of the sixth generation Torino based Ranchero, but I think it is rad. Find this 1972 Ford Ranchero offered for $3900 in Scottsdale, AZ via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

My brother had a ’70 Ranchero with the 351C four barrel in high school. It was a rust bucket that somebody had disguised with a couple gallons of Bondo, and the engine eventually seized, but it was fun while it lasted.
Makes me want to watch Gran Torino again.
Super cheap. No surprise it’s already sold. I would have jumped on that.
The Ranchero Squire version with woodgrain & hide-away headlights to me is the ultimate representation of confident American style and aesthetics. I can’t imagine how foreign one would’ve looked on the streets of Düsseldorf or Sapporo at the start of the 70s but I’d sure love a time machine so I could find out!
