Cheap 4X4: 1988 Jeep Wrangler

I am constantly amazed at how much Fiat-Chrysler-Daimler-Stellantis can charger for a new Jeep Wrangler. The things start at $28k MSRP but can exceed $50k with options. Really, people are willing to shell out $50k for a car built on a chassis designed during WWII? For my money, I’d get 10 used Wranglers for the same amount of cash…or just one Wrangler and save the cash for a getaway home in the high desert somewhere. Find this 1988 Jeep Wrangler offered for $4400 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

Not a bad deal, considering what you’re getting. Nothing like the feeling of being able to drive over most anything in your way, though honestly many of us never leave the road. I bought an 08 JKU this summer for a family adventure rig. Found a good number of fossils getting out and about on the back roads this summer.
Designed when Jeep was owned by the French government.
It’s so much fun to tell Jeep owners that!
Well not exactly; Renault owned 46.1% of AMC (a controlling interest) they didn’t “own” AMC. The only French parts in the YJ were the Peugeot BA10/5 Manual in the early years (including this one for sale). The YJ was an evolution of the CJ-7 and with the exception of the BA10 Trans an American Design through and through from the Jeep Engineers in Cleveland OH.
Very nice price. The Wrangler was the replacement for the CJ series, with an improved dash design, longer wheelbase, the new squared headlamps. The grandfather of the uber expensive Jeeps that Fiat Chrysler has been making a killing on for years.
wow. that’s a lotta miles!
