Ford 5.0 V8 Swapped: 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL-SE

I know that the RX-7 rotary purists (Wankers as they call themselves) will cringe at the average pushrod V8 swapped RX-7, but they’ll be decidedly appalled that the builder used a GSL-SE to turn into a piston pumping pavement pounder. However, despite the vintage Cali sunset plate, the car itself is pretty ragged — rust appears in bubbles all over the paint and the seller reported having a blown engine…so this wasn’t some cherry collectors item, this was an RX-7 that needed some love…which it got in the form of a Ford V8 swap. Future Classic: 1993 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

They called it a factory sport truck, but the first generation SVT Lightning was a bit more than a few stickers and some interior bling. It was built to compete with Chevy’s 454SS and had a special 240 horsepower version of the 351 Windsor under the hood, but it had some tricks up it’s sleeve when it came to the twisty parts, thanks in part to legendary F1 driver Jackie Stewart. It wasn’t just a spring/shock setting, the Lightning also used thicker F250 4X4 sourced frame rails and additional welded gusseting to increase chassis rigidity and make it stick to the pavement. Color matched bumpers, lower ride height, and blacked-out trim completed the look and with production limited to 11,563 units over 3 model years means the Lightning will be a future collectible. Risky Buy Of The Year: 1996 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG

This car is an interesting piece of used German metal. And I’ll start by admiting that I had the pleasure of owning and daily driving a used C36 AMG for a few years…and it wasn’t a bad car. The AMG tuned 3.6 liter M104 inline-6 is melodious instrument and it belted out 286 horsepower into a 5 speed slushbox that snapped off shifts like a SIG Sauer. It didn’t have the same steering feedback of an E36 M3 (had one of those too) and it wanted you to drive it more like a muscle car than a sports machine…but it wasn’t a bad vehicle at all, and I would recommend one to someone looking for a cheap future classic from Stuttgart. However…would I recommend one that needs to be towed home because the key was broken and the paint is covered in a vinyl wrap? Only if the price was…wow. That’s cheap.
