Callaway Twin Turbo: 1987 Chevrolet Corvette C4

The story of the famous Callaway C4 Vette goes something like this: A racer turned driving instructor named Reeves Callaway bolted a turbo system on a BMW 320i and loaned the car to a Car and Driver journalist who wrote a one page article on the beast. At the time, the number of folks who had the capability to turbocharge a car without grenading the engine was extremely limited and in 1977 Callaway Cars was incorporated to develop aftermarket turbo kits for the mass market. Several years later, Callaway was working closely with various OEMs to develop turbo systems for BMW, Volkswagen, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Chevrolet, many of which maintained factory backed warranty. Callaway eventually became world renowned for his bonkers twin turbo Corvettes, and this is an example from the first year of Callaway C4 production. Find this 1987 Chevrolet Corvette C4 offered for $22,000 in Lutz, FL via craigslist. Tip from Dave in Tampa.

I don’t know the performance specs, but I remember when these were new they were aimed at taking on the “common supercars” of the time. With that perspective, this is a real bargain. Think about what a comparable 1987 Ferrari (any model) would cost you to own and operate.
I’m guessing but I bet this is much more rare than those too.

Cool, but I’d rather have a Tesla-converted air-cooled Porsche cab.
