Call Me Mondeo: 1999 Ford Contour SVT
The biggest complaint I have about this next car is the name. Say it out loud: I drive a Contour. An SVT Contour. Yuck. Contour. Blech. SVT Contour sounds like something you’d lookup in a medical encyclopedia and recoil in horror at the associated illustration. Ford should have kept the global name and called it the Mondeo…but at least we were able to get one in the USA with a 5-speed manual gearbox and some tuning from Ford’s Special Vehicle Team. Find this 1999 Ford Contour SVT offered for $3950 in Altadena, CA via craigslist.

Drove a bunch of plain vanilla Contours back in the 90s on business travel. Never knew an SVT version existed. Looks like it's been well-maintained, especially since it has matching tires. LoL
What i was hoping for a Ford Tempo or Mercury Topaz real junk.Brit version much better……
My personal speed record is in a car exactly like this one; 143 mph going back to Georgia from Spring Break in Destin, FL in the year 2000. My college roommate's car. We swap places and he gets it to right at 150, can't recall exactly. When the secondary intake runners open up, it's a symphony. Looking back doing that kind of speed on a public interstate (at night) was sheer stupidity.

I’ll raise you a NSU Prinz with a std. transmission.
Gonna need to use a ford probe to get a positive confirmation.
These were very well received by the motoring press when released. Have become a bit of a cult classic. Awful to work on. Rich kid in HS had one, I really admired it at the time…
