Built by Barris For Belushi: 1975 Chevrolet Corvette

This next car had me do a double take. And then check to see if it was a scam. How is it possible that a custom car built by legendary George Barris could possibly sell for less than a new Honda Civic? Maybe a really crusty Barris custom that needs total restoration built for his 2nd cousin…but no…this is in amazing shape and was built for John Belushi. I could not find a photo of the famous SNL founding cast member with this car…but there has to be one out there. Find this 1975 Chevrolet Corvette offered for $24,999 in Bellingham, WA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

YES, this in fact a 1975 Custom Corvette built by the Legendary George Barris for John Belushi!!!!! Was in John Fosters collecion since 1995. John Foster passed and car was sold at his estate sale. This is a 1 off custom. 350 small block, auto trans, PS, nice paint, nice interior, T-Tops. Just cool as heck. I am looking to trade up or down as long as it’s not a project. Please no boats, motorcycles (I am to old) Something that spins heads like this Corvette. Let me know if interested in a trade and what it is. Mustang, Nova, El Camino, CJ Jeep, Challenger, Hot Rod, Chevelle, Rambler, Classic older pick up, Pontiac, just some ideas. Car isn’t perfect but very dependable and priced I believe under true value today. (yet alone 10 more years from now, who knows). You can call me or reply by craiglist.
OTHER George Barris known customs include the “BAT MOBILE”, Bill Car’s legendary 55 Chev “AZTEC, the “BARRISTER, the “KOACH” and their “DRAG-U-LA”, Barris’s 1975 “SNAKE PIT”, Elvis Presley’s custom “STUTZ” and the “JOKER MOBILE”.

Those gremlin taillights… Cocaine is a helluva drug.
Came here to say basically the same. Cocaine is a helluva drug.
The taillights still look better on this creation than on a Gremlin.
I love Barris and his creations, but I’ll admit that there’s not a single custom modification on this car that’s a graceful improvement from what used to be.
But with George, that wasn’t the point. He was always aiming for the outrageous, garish, and absurd in his work. His goal wasn’t to make a car more beautiful, it was to make it wild and unique.
I think this is why a lot of his cars are still affordable. Most people find them distasteful and tacky. But if you consider them as a whole and look at the pioneering craftsmanship, they’re impressive.
George Barris was a crazy artist and, just like with painting or music, the appreciation is subjective. This isn’t my favorite of his creations, but I’d love to own it. Someone has preserved it well so far and it deserves continued care.
If you absolutely had to drive a Barris car, this is probably as drivable as you can get. I mean compared to a coffin, a pair of bathtubs, or something with six engines.
Someone on Staten Island has one of the Monkeymobiles , but I only have seen it parked and not actually driving around.
Oh wait, Dean Jeffries built the Monkeymobiles, and Barris bought one. Confusing!
It’s a CorGrimEldoMarkIII!
