Bubblecar Quartet: 1955-61 Messerschmitt KR200 Kabinenroller

After Germany’s second failed attempt to take over the world in 25 years, the post WWII German industrial machine was saddled with a number of restrictions.  Messerschmitt found themselves a warplane company that was not allowed to build warplanes, so they did the next best thing and built tiny three wheeled Kabinenrollers (German for scooter with cabin).  A classic KR200 Kabineroller is more a novelty than a useful commuter, but today we feature a cadre of the little 3-wheelers from a single seller on eBay who is liquidating his fleet.

The KR200 featured a 191cc Fichtel & Sachs two-stroke 1-cylinder engine that generates about 10 horsepower.  The little machine is capable of something in the 60 mph range if you’ve got a long-enough runway and brave-enough pilot.

Up first is this 1955 Messerschmitt KR200 that is a project, missing some parts, but (importantly) it runs.  Find it here on eBay bidding for $4,561 reserve-not-met, located in Piggott, AR with 4 days to go.

The next one is a 1958 Messerschmitt KR200, also a project, but it has two engines mated together, making it the speed demon of the group.  Unfortunately, neither engine works — find it here on eBay bidding for $1,025 reserve-not-met, located in Piggott, AR with 4 days to go.

This 1959 Messerschmitt KR200 is the most complete of the bunch — it runs & drives, but is costmetically challenged and missing a few parts.  Find it here on eBay bidding for $1,025 reserve-not-met, located in Piggott, AR with 4 days to go.

The final microcar is this 1961 Messerschmitt KR200 that is also a project, engine not currently running (but claimed rebuilt), but has a new bubble top (apparently you can still buy the tops new from Messerschmitt after all these years).  Find it here on eBay bidding for $3,800 reserve-not-met, located in Piggott, AR with 4 days to go.
