Brown Sugar: 1983 Chevrolet C20 Pickup Glamper

Value, worth, and price are difficult concepts for most people to grasp. And the worst part is that many people have a mistaken idea that they are the same thing. If you ask a curmudgeon like me about the cars that sell on fancy pants auction sites, I’m gonna tell you that they are usually worth about 1/2 to 3/4 of the selling price. Does that mean somebody got ripped off or that I just don’t understand the market. Probably both…but the seller of this next car says it is a six figure car, which means I figure he/she spent a few more minutes in the paint booth than their respirator was rated for. But who knows…I guess it is worth what somebody pays for it. And that is the kind of critical thinking you can always expect from DT for free…which is valuable. Ironic? Confused? It isn’t just you. I love the all-out execution of the concept on the exterior. It is brilliant in its own way.
I know the general caution for kit cars is… you never know just what the builder used to put the dang thing together.
But this one’s easy: Oak kegs for… water storage, maybe? Or life preservers if you want to take it out on the lake? And old salvaged storage tank cut in half for the kitchen…
…lots of 3″ wood discards from a woodshop used for the inside walls…
Fabricator says they bought the RV for $1400, and figured on a “quick flip” for some good money.
That was 2 years ago. But you know… nobody bought RVs/campers in 2020 or 2021…right? Because nobody was camping.
So… they’re still looking for the right buyer. I’m sure she or he is out there.
Somewhere.
-Stan (who is also out there… somewhere…at times.)
PS I especially like the $25 galvanized roofing panels (for sides) and (already delaminating) plywood used for the back. I wonder what they used for the roof? Cardboard?
Dang, I just figured out what six figures meant:
$1400.00.
(count them figures… six!)
Even if you raise the suspension I think the departure angle will probably prevent you from departing the Walmart parking lot.
From the looks of things, six-figures is the owners weight. (edited for PC)
Most labors of love end in heartbreak.
FWIW, BaT featured another camper build by the same company a while ago. Highest bid was nowhere narwhal it went for at Barrett- Jackson.

I think the extended and widened bed is a nice custom touch. Personally I find a bagged camper pretty confusing. I also don’t get going to all that work and using a camper shell with cheap-looking and lumpy siding.
And I know I’ve seen this symphony of brown either on this web site or another site before, I just can’t put my finger on it. A bagged camper is the height of lunacy but maybe there’s a Gen Z-er out there who has the money and a fondness for this thing. Tricked out Sprinter vans are going for high five figures all day long so maybe there’s a buyer for this thing too.
I admire the effort and time it took to build it. Love the floor shift. But…I hate brown. Oh well………..
