Bronze Stripper: 1974 Ford Maverick

This next Maverick left the factory with a very basic 250-inline-6 powertrain and an automatic transmission, and gorgeous bronze paint color. It isn’t a total stripper because it does have power steering and disc brakes, and those wheels are pretty sweet. I guess the only thing this car is missing is the V8…hmmmm, makes you wonder. 2.0L Cosworth with a manual transmission is what this Maverick needs.
Or a Honda F20C with 6-speed if you prefer more modern stuff. But I approve of a screamer engine in a Maverick. Be sure to wear your facemask hanging off one ear and pretend you are Maverick from Top Gun.
Keep it all Ford, keep it straight six, but why not this?

Did the Barra come in any American market Fords? I see that it has a fanatical following over in upsidedown-Texas but never made it here … or did it?
It was never sold officially here. “Upside down Texas” had some fascinating variations on the strait six Ford. Crossflow heads, SOHC heads, DOHC heads. Pretty wild stuff. I think the crossflow bolts on to American engines.
Checks the net – well after some shenanigans the Australian head can be attached with bolts

I remember that the advertising for these was that they were easy for the owner to do all the maintenance on. It was true, I knew a woman that did a spark plug and points change standing in the engine compartment in the art school parking lot. Set the timing by ear and it was good.
