Better Late Than Never: 2017 Ford Focus RS

I know what you are thinking…because I had the same gut response when Ford introduced the RS version of the Focus in 2015.. Great, another example of an American car company joining the part about 10-15 years late. Because that is par for the course. Mitsubishi had been selling their Lancer Evolution since 2003 and Subaru had been selling their rally-ready all-wheel-drive STI since 2004…but Ford…they waited until 2015 to release a 4-cylinder turbocharged 300-to-350 horsepower all-wheel-drive rally thing. They were so late to the party that it had been already broken up by the cops….Mitsubishi exited the fun-car market that same year with the obsolescence of the Evolution at the end of the 2015 model year. It’s one thing to be fashionably late, its another to miss the entire raging party and then end up canceling the car 3 years later…because that is exactly what happened. Find this 2017 Ford Focus RS offered for $21,500 in Inkster, MI via ebay.

A “very minor bump” causes a rebuilt title? Still a cool car. I’d be tempted to choose this over the Subaru or Mitsubishi.
Destined to be a classic… someday!
Surprise, surprise… like most ads for rebuilt-title cars, the description of the damage ain’t quite accurate. Pre-repair pics of the car and its “slightly cracked” front bumper are available here: https://en.bidfax.info/ford/focus/7592301-ford-focus-rs-2017-black-23l-vin-wf0dp3th1h4123677.html
Wow, that is some impressive sleuthing to find the pre-repair photos! Thanks for sharing!
It’s really not that hard. Many times when I’ve looked at cars with rebuilt titles for sale, I’ve just googled the VIN (which is what I did here). There are usually pictures out there from the insurance auctions. I’ve owned a number of cars with rebuilt titles, and sometimes they can be a pretty good deal. But sellers frequently downplay the extent of the damage, so finding pre-repair photos can be pretty helpful.
Ahh, I’ll have to give that strategy a try some time. My 19-yo son and I bought a 2000 Impreza 2.5RS last fall that was written off TWICE by the insurance company as a complete loss and it still brings a stupid grin to my face when it runs. Which isn’t often since it is an absolute crapcan but what was I gonna do with that $2,750 anyway?
