Barn Found: 1967 Mercury Cougar 4-spd

What is it about V8 4-speed domestic iron that brings out the inner Edd China/Mike Brewer in the most mild mannered of folks?  Offer the same person a fantastic deal on something like a vintage Saab and they will “have to ask their wife” but stick an old Mercury Cougar in front of them and they start decoding the VIN and looking at option plates.  Find this 1967 Mercury Cougar 4-spd offered for $6,500 in Blaine, WA via craigslist.  Tip from FuelTruck.

In case you are unfamiliar with the 1st generation Mercury Cougar, here is a quick recap —  built from 1967 to 1970 as a pony car for the Mercury brand, based on the Mustang, always powered by a V8, hardtop coupe or convertible, 437,000 examples built.

This one is powered by a 302 V8 that is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox, not an extremely rare combination but nothing to kick out of bed for eating crackers either.  This old gal will need some reconditioning, but for the asking price it certainly looks tempting.
