Bargain ///M: 2000 BMW M5
The original BMW M5 was released in 1986 as an obsidian autobahn cruiser and it only got better with age. The next generation also featured another hot inline-6, but it wasn’t until the 1999 release of the E39 generation M5 that it got an appropriately menacing V8 to tear up the streets. This next example comes from a Sean S. Find this 2000 BMW M5 offered for $5,600 in Malibu, CA via craigslist.

Selling my BMW M5 – E39 LeMans Blue, Black and Grey interior. The car is a 6 speed manual, very fast, it has custom fabricated Stainless Steel 3″ Exhaust, very unique sounding car in the e39 class.
Sound was converted to double DIN head unit, currently Alpine touchscreen, JL audio interior, 2 RF 10″ in tuned box in the boot – total 950+Watts…Now ultimate sound machine, very clean.
Garage kept most of its life, and miles are highway miles. Fanatically kept, never wrecked and just received tuneup of all Fluids, Plugs, Gaskets, Sensors, Bushings, Tires, Driveshaft & Wheel Bearings, Pressure Lines, Guibo and Clutch+repacked Differential. Runs great, NEVER tracked or abused.
Will relinquish all special tools, including a GT1 head unit, programs, spare parts, and shop manuals for this car.

I don't think there is a car right now with a bigger price spread.
one sold at auction for $176,000 and then you have this running driving example for $5,600.
I wouldn't be scared of the milage. There was one on petrolicious with 380,000 miles original motor.
If you get a chance these are amazing cars to drive. I drove one a few years ago and even with 150K miles the car felt very cohesive. The power to handeling is very well judged and these are great mile crunchers and back road blasters.
Gone!
I did some stuff to my M5 today. It is a fun car to work on however the parts are adding up$$$$. Some really neat engineering, I especially like the different length velocity stacks in the air plenum. Iv'e been pulling weight out of it's fat ass as well.

That's cool. Do they sell kits for it? (ie, recommending a change in stack height?) You can do some tweaking with velocity stack length in motorcycle air boxes as well. When I used to road race, I would switch them out from tighter slower track to a longer, faster track where you're at wide open throttle a lot more.
They actually sell a kit of short stacks when someone wants to supercharge.
