If you are willing to sacrifice a little smoothness, the 4BT is a sweet mill for a passenger vehicle. The downsides of shakiness and smelliness and that make it too crude for a showroom floor can easily be solved by not being a sissy about such things. The upside is a lot of torque, good fuel mileage and imperviousness to conventional weapons.
More like impervious to EMF. Keep rolling when everything else is toast.
Argh, in my mind they replaced the best part of the 80 series drivetrain (the engine) and kept the worst (the transmission). But with all of that shaking going on up front, I imagine the dampening-effect of a torque converter will smooth it out a bit.
