This next car is about as odd of a combination as you’ll find around — first it is the Mercury Capri from the time when they shared a chassis and powertrain with the Fox-body Mustang, and it is equipped with a manual gearbox, but the kicker is that it is one of the few Capri’s put through the ASC McLaren convertible conversion. Find this 1986 Mercury Capri offered for $8000 in Quinton, VA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
From the seller:
1986 Mercury Capri
cylinders: 8 cylinders
paint color: black
title status: clean
For Sale: 1986 Mercury Capri ASC McLaren edition with 72,517 original miles. This is a very rare car only 557 ASC McLaren convertibles were made between 1984-1986. Car runs strong, shifts great (5 speed), and everything works. It does have air conditioning and has been converted to R-134A. Power windows, power front disc brakes, power steering, manual top, and all the ASC options including Recaro bucket seats, built in radar detector, stereo, etcetera. The only issue with the body is a small broken piece from the front air dam – I have the piece in the trunk and it can be repaired. Also, the motor that locks the top in the back needs to be replaced – I have it and am in the process of replacing it. Floors and undercarriage are clean. Only modifications are the 75MM throttle body, trick flow intake, shorty headers, and cat back dynaflow exhaust.
