Another Malaising Green Machine: 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442

This next car comes as a tip from Rock On who writes; Groom those chest hairs…which might be confusing if you aren’t a regular reader of DT, but let me fill you in. It starts with this ’78 Dodge Monaco that is about as malaise as you can find, but this next car might have a slightly more putrid shade of green and take the cake. The malaise cake. What do you think? Find this 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 offered for $9900 in West Covina, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

At the exact same list price, I’d have to give the clear advantage to the ’78 Monaco, but this Olds is also cool, just overpriced in direct comparison. That Monaco is in better condition overall, plus a much better shade of green and that interior is fantastic. I’d actually own the Monaco. This Olds, probably not.
I understand the the steering on these can be a little hairy.
It is somewhat distressing that DT has some experience with combing chest hairs. Something things are best left unsaid as some cars are best never seen again. Case in point.
It that chest hair on the steering wheel?
So that means that the weird bumps on modern steering wheels are ….
Ok, I get you point about things left unsaid.

It’ll be kind of interesting for the new owner to find out what’s under the dark green paint ring below the vinyl roof. Judging by the stain dripping on the left rear fender, it won’t be pretty.
Which creatures will be the more dangerous ones to evict, the tin worms hiding under the vinyl roof, or the family of ferrets that has taken up residence in the steering wheel?
With the 455 under the hood, though, this makes sense for somebody priced out of the ’72 and earlier 442 market. Well, somebody who has amazing bodywork skills but can’t make early 442 money with them.
