Ambitious Amphibious: 1992 Dutton Mariner
We posted a Dutton the other day…but it was from the early days when Dutton built kit cars and before it was sued by Ford for using the Sierra name…and this next car dates from a time when Dutton stopped making street cars (after a run of almost 8000 kit cars…not bad for a botique manufacturer out of Sussex) and turned to amphibious car production for a few years before ending that too. We don’t typically exceed DT’s self imposed $20k limit on price…but this machine is extraordinary enough to warrant a feature. Find this 1992 Dutton Mariner offered for $39000 in Sherman, CT via craigslist. Tip from Hugh C.

ted kennedy probably could have used one of these.
Looks like an amphibious postal truck, and the red and blue stripes contribute to the impression.
It has to be pretty interesting mechanically. Does the transverse mounted engine up front somehow operate the jet drive too? Or does the jet drive run off a different engine?
I did a bit of searching to see if I could figure out what was going on mechanically, and it turns out Dutton is still in the amphibious car business. [image src=" timdutton.com/jpeg/reef7.jpg" width="400px"/]
I never understood this sort of thing beyond a novelty. It's a terrible boat and a terrible car all in 1 package!
Has a salvage title……..must have sunk
Was just on BF
