Affordable Bankruptcy: 1979 Maserati Merak SS

The Maserati Merak debuted at the 1972 Paris Auto Show, following the Bora’s introduction by over a year. Sharing the front bodyshell with the Bora up to the doors, the Merak diverges in design with dual chrome bumpers and different front ends, separating at the B-pillar. Commissioned to metamorphose the Bora, Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign crafted the Merak with distinct features—a cabin ending abruptly with a vertical rear window and a flat, ventilated engine cover. Additional enhancements included open flying buttresses elongating the roofline to the tail — and wow, get a look at those wheels. If you think this will be bidded into silly prices…keep your bid card ready, because these are cheaper than expected. Find this 1979 Maserati Merak SS offered for $15,401 reserve-not-met located in Morristown, NJ with 4 days to go via ebay auction.

No pictures from the rear that show whether it has the hump or not. I’m all for full size spares, but would prefer to avoid the Quasimodo edition.
Italian Breadvan? i see lots of similarities to Lotus Europa in this. guess it was a somewhat common design train of thought in the Era
Is it an SS or just a badge like Clarkson’s 😉
