Goes Like Hell S’more: 1986 Shelby Omni GLHS

For the 1986 and 1987 model years, Shelby Automobiles modified about 500 Dodge Omnis in their California based factory for shipment and sales directly through Dodge dealers around the country. These econobox legends were outfitted with a modified engine, upgraded wheels, brakes and suspension and given a factory Shelby VIN…so don’t call it a tuner car or a kit car. And don’t expect these junkers to be cheap forever. Find this 1986 Shelby Dodge Omni GHLS offered for $4,500 in Jefferson, NC via faketurbo marketblock. Tip from John W.

The American GTI. “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” Though I do believe these would have made more of an impact if the production run wasn’t so limited.
The Shelby GLH-S models assembled at Shelby’s skunkworks in Whittier, CA were indeed limited production (500 Omni-based and 1000 Charger-based), but Dodge made a lot more Omni GLH and Shelby Charger units with Shelby-specified equipment that made them nearly as potent as that final run of GHL-S cars.
