8X8 Twister: 1975 Lockheed Dragon Wagon
If you are in the market for a tough off road vehicle for zombie apocalypse survival (or whatever…maybe you commute in south side Chicago rush hour traffic?), people are going to tell you that you need a 4X4…but those folks are dead wrong. It just isn’t enough wheels on the ground. Maybe 6X6? Gettin’ closer, but that still isn’t enough. What you need is this 1975 Lockheed Dragon Wagon 8X8 offered for $14,250 in Hayward, CA via craigslist. Tip from Kaibeezy.
This is about as heavy duty as you can get with a vehicle that can still travel on the road and I’d be really tempted to remove the rear 4-wheels and run this thing as the worlds shortest wheelbase truck, but I’m not sure if the front wheels turn separate from the rear — handling could get dicey.

Rubicon rig to the Nth degree.
Buy this monster, add a pickup bed to the rear section, and you'll have the closest thing possible to KBZ's excellent 4WD badge. Cab-over layout and articulating frame are bonuses.
two questions:
how do you get power from the motor to the rear wheels?
Do do you keep from banging the back of your head on the back of the cab in those seats?
The 8-wheel drive dragon wagon the BLM Carson City Fire District used saved thousands of acres from being burned during the 1973 wild fire season.
The military liked the vehicle, but it was a serious maintenance hog.
It made accessing many impassable areas possible, but if you had to get out quickly when fire came your way, that was a problem.
With 8-wheel drive, it was expensive. The prototype the BLM used cost $1,000,000 in 1973. Another reason the US Military opted out.
