As the long time owner of BMW’s back to my 72 and 73 2002’s right down to my still on the road ’95 E36 4 banger 5 speed convert with 380 k on the ODO and my 01 E46 wagon 5 speed, , BOTH of which had their engines replaced (for different reasons) at 330K and 200K or so, let me opine now that I’ve thrown down my highly suspect credentials, which have very little to do with what I am going to say.
As long as a later Bimmer does not have the cursed iDrive or any of that garbage you start out ahead of the game. That said, anything in my opinion past a 2007 E91 which the wife drives, will invariably spend some time in the very expensive dealer garage bay. Newer BMW’s are less a driving machine and more a collection of electronic sensors , relays and whatchamaallits clustered around some pistons that hopefully go up and down.
I’m not a big sedan guy. BUT…it is not a slushbox. If you would consider this, I would dip into the F90 Bimmer Threads, https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/ and poke around for some enlightenment before I lay down the many thousands for what essentially is a device to get from here to there, practically in a generic undercover machine, There, I said it!
