6-Speed American: 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

This next car comes from Jeff who writes: A great example of a solid sports car that checks so many of the boxes. On the higher end of the NADA price spectrum, but when it comes to mileage, condition, performance/durability and fun factor, this is hard to beat. Find this 2000 Chevrolet Corvette offered for $16,000 in Columbus, NE via craigslist.

You could get a same gen Z06 for this money. I appreciate the cleanness of this car, but these cars take a beating and just keep going. Someone will love having this in their garage, but I would buy a ratty Z06 and flog the crap out of it.
Z06 pricing.
Pass.
Z06 money…? Negative Ghost Rider. Prices seem to be on the rise for Z06’s of the same year-ish and are going for more than that. Quick search……

Ultimately, this Vette is in line with pricing…. before negotiation of course. 😉
Those look like dealer listings. Craigslist and FB have Z06 in this price range on a regular basis. Plus with the exception of the last one these are garage queens. My point is these cars were built to be driven and in quantities that negate future collector status. Plus they take a beating like none other, the 124K mile car points to that. Buying this is a perfect deal for someone who wants a Vette in the garage, but for my money I will buy a 150K mile plus Z06 that looks ratty but still goes faster than anything else for the same money.
I like C5s but I’ve been seeing C6 cars creeping into attainable territory too and for me the C6 is a big upgrade aesthetically. I also read this article about C5s that I thought was interesting:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a32169/the-corvettes-that-dont-get-driven-sold-or-bought/
I saw that article as well. Interesting how a car can “fall into” that kind of status.
That being said, I was still right about the C5 vs C5/Z06 pricing, haha.
