6 Cylinder Pony Deluxe: 1966 Ford Mustang

Ford made a million Mustangs in the first 18 months of production, a record that stands to this day in the world of vehicle sales and production. For years those vintage Mustangs have been an easy way to get into the classic car hobby as the supply far outran the demand for a 30 or 40 year old classic…but as they hit the 50 year mark, the number that had succumb to rust, coupled with the increasing cool factor of a classic car (thanks Obama..errr…I mean…thanks Steve McQueen) those classic Mustangs now cost a pretty penny. Today we found a cheap one that looks in great shape, you’ll just have to forgo the experience of owning a V8 for now. Find this 1966 Ford Mustang offered for $13,500 in Riverside, CA via craigslist.

Needs carburetor adjustment, aka runs like crap.
Ripe for an electric conversion.
I know, heresy to do this to any classic… but 10 years from now, that’s where many of these cars with rust-free bodies will be going, partly because they’ll be cheaper to run (and a helluva lot faster/quicker), and partly because the conversion will be cheaper than keeping these old power plants running.
Even after these conversions they’ll still be deathtraps in crashes. So some of the wonderfulness of owning a classic will remain.
