5k: Unsold Adams: 1973 Datsun 240Z w/ Chevy V8
The original Z was as close as Japan ever came to building a pony car, so needless to say, everyone loves a good V8 swapped Datsun 240Z. The lightweight chassis with long hood offers plenty of room for domestic iron and parts for non drivetrain items are easy and cheap. Even better is when you find a V8 powered Z where all the work is done and the owner isn’t asking crazy money for it. Find this 1973 Datsun 240Z with Chevy 383 V8 for $4,800 located in Bakersfield, CA via craigslist.
This ad earns the despised Unsold Adams award for violating every basic rule for creating a successful craigslist ad. First up are the photos. Portrait oriented distance photos are great for…well…nothing. The only thing that can be discerned from this photo is that the car is red and doesn’t have a rear bumper. A quick scan of the ad text doesn’t help because it fills in precious little additional details.
Every craiglist ad isn’t complete without a nighttime shot…and the only thing we can tell is that the paint is red and the engine is exposed. This is either a case of a lazy seller who just wants to be rid of this car or a true genius with a complete project. Regardless this could be a great car for a bargain.

So many pics, what to do, and that engine.. a real looker.
My usual 'rule of thumb' for lazy sellers like this one is I don't give their vehicle a second thought. As a matter of fact I've invested much more time writing this response, than I did viewing the above vehicle….oh well.
cheers……~JeffH~
But here's the rub…if they're too lazy to write a good ad, they won't get much action, which makes ANY offer, their highest offer. Ads like this are lowballer's paradise
~ good observation. the seller gets no points for style but the buyer may steal a deal.
I always worry that if they put this much time in the making of the ad , how much did they invest in the making of the car? But then again as Tinman points out – a lowball offer becomes the only offer. Picking up someone's abandoned project is often a good way to get into a new project or at least grab a bunch of parts
If they can't even put together a halfway decent Craigslist ad, what makes you think this person could properly pull off a V8 conversion?
