5k: Pistons Added: 1984 Mazda RX-7 FB, Chevy V-8 Swap

The first generation (FB) Mazda RX-7 was a peppy little coupe with a high revving Wankel engine and an attitude for oversteer.  Unfortunately the spinning bits under the hood of the FB were not engineered to last more than 100k miles and the cost of replacement is often more than the value of the vehicle…so…why not triple the original horsepower with a nice small block V8 swap?  Find this 1984 Mazda RX-7 with Chevy V-8 swap for sale in Estes Park, CO for $4,500 via craigslist.

This RX-7 is wearing a set of wide aftermarket wheels and looks to be slightly lowered.  Its not a bad looking car for the price, although the ad is sparse on details.

Under the hood is a 355 cubic inch small block Chevy V8 mated to a World Class T-5 manual transmission.  The seller doesn’t give specs, but we would be disappointed if it didn’t make 300 horsepower and 350 ft-lbs of torque. Sure, it adds a few lbs of weight over the front wheels, but its nothing that can’t be remedied with some suspension tuning.
