5k: Pi Day: 1989 Cadillac Allanté, Interior By Pi

Pi day is a yearly observance of the day 3-14, celebrated around the globe by geeks, dweebs, nerds and the borderline autistic.  Naturally, we are going to join in the fun with Pi themed day here on the pages of DT.  First up is this 1989 Cadillac Allanté Convertible with in an “interior by Pi” currently bidding on ebay for $1,025 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go, located in Delphos, KS.

Whoa, an “interior by Pi,” must be some kind of rare option or dealer installed special.  Nope. Just a seller who did not notice that ebay truncated his attempt at putting into the description: “interior by Pininfarina.”  Aside from having round wheels, this Allanté does not have much to do with Ï€, but it was designed and partially assembled by Pininfarina in Italy.  I use the term partially because the Allanté chassis/subframe was assembled in the USA, and shipped in specially designed 767s to Italy.  The interior and exterior added by Pininfarnia and then it was shipped back to the USA for engine/transmission.

The engine (in this 1989 model) is a 4.5 liter HT-series V8 that makes 200 horsepower from its alloy-block iron-head pushrod setup.  The version in the Allanté put out 270 ft-lbs of torque, which was a lot of torque for a front wheel drive automobile…and sounds impressive until you recall the first generation Olds Toronado and its 475 ft-lbs of torque.

Just how many Pi day features should we do today…thinking about 3…  tips@dailyturismo.com
