5k: Parts Donor: 1975 Ford Granada Ghia

Most Ford enthusiasts know the Granada as a parts donor – willingly giving rear disc brakes to Mustangs all across the country (much in the same way the Mustang II is known for its R&P steering system and dual A-arm suspension, used in all manner of hot rods).  Most Granadas have long been stripped of usable parts and recycled into refrigerator magnets by now but at least one has escaped the crusher’s jaws. Find this 1975 Ford Granada for sale in Bothell, WA for $3,800 via craiglist.  Tip from ANCMatt.

Flash back to bell-bottomed pants, 18% interest rates and the ever increasing price of gasoline that fueled the Malaise Era.  A new Mercedes SLC would set you back almost $24k while the feature Ford Granada cost a relatively paltry $4k…not that anyone sane would compare the two…

Sane, of course, excludes the marketing team from Ford, who directly compared the Granada to the 450SLC coupe from Mercedes. In the ad above you can see they have similar proportions, the same Bordeaux shade of red, and RWD V8 layout, but the similarities pretty much end there.

This Granada is powered by what looks to be a 351 windsor V8 that would have produced 143 horsepower and 256 ft-lbs of torque…but this particular example has been massaged with some Ford Racing performance parts and probably makes a few more ponies (no way to tell based on the cryptic info from the seller).

The seller hints at this being a one-owner car: “When I first tell someone that I’m the original owner of a 1975 Ford Granada Ghia they chuckle and wonder why.”  Unfortunately he doesn’t explicitly state that this is his original car, so we are left wondering…
