5k: Mean Green Fighting Machine: 1968 Kaiser Jeep M-715
In case the Jeep Gladiator (pickup version of the Wagoneer) isn’t manly enough for you, there is always the M-715 military version. The M-175 is going to suck down fuel like a SoCal wildfire, but it should make for an interesting off-roader when it runs. Find this 1968 Kaiser Jeep M-715 for sale in Houston, AK for $4,000 via craigslist. Tip from ANCMatt.
ANCMatt writes of this green beast: I can’t think of anything more appropriate than this for when you send
your Alaskan valentine off into the bush on a solo hunting trip. What a guy. Hope his valentine brought back a few deer/moose/polar bears.
The M715 needs some work, and the seller says about the Toronado inline-6 in his own words: Ran when parked last fall, wont start now, probably points and plugs
need to be changed. The engine needs to be rebuilt, as it is low on
power, smokes and spits. Just a guess, but the low on power (smoking and spitting) could be related to the non-start, and internet chatter says the big 3.8 liter overhead-cam was unreliable due to lack of understanding of maintenance on the over-head valve setup back in the day. Who knows, you could get lucky and it just needs a rebuilt carb, or it could need a totally new engine.

Hey, I didn't say I'd be sending my Valentine off into the bush for a solo hunting trip. I just know a few Anchorage neighbors who would be more than happy to do so. This is possibly the vehicle for them.
The weak point for these has always been the engine. Kept the motor pool guys busy.
We called these 5/4 or 1 and a quarter ton had one @our base in Germany was getting over used by the duty driver's
I happened to be coming back from a run a block from base when it sucked a valve and i coasted into the motor pool.
It was gone for 6 months and finally returned with a new motor. 55 mph was about top speed the way it was geared.
