5k: Going Plaid: 1979 Porsche 924 Sebring Edition

In 1979 Porsche released a special edition of the 924 front-engined coupe to celebrate their victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race – think of it like a shorter and less famous version of the 24 Hrs of LeMans.  The Sebring edition 924 included a few big stickers, stripes and the ultimate plaid interior to bring out the Jackie Stewart in anyone. Luckily for those who don’t have access to famous ex-F1 drivers cash, the Sebring 924 can be picked up for dirt cheap.  Find this 1979 Porsche 924 Sebring Edition offered for $3,450 in Orange, CA via craigslist.  Tip from Alex V.

The ’79 Sebring Edition 924 is similar to the ’77 Martini Edition 924; both are cosmetic option packages for the 924 that offer little in terms of performance improvements.   The seller claims that only 500 of the Sebring Edition were sold in the USA, but an internet search found no corroborating data.

Aside from the huge 924 sticker on the front valence, the thing that makes the Sebring Edition special is the crazy plaid seats and door cards.  I can’t stop from speaking like Sean Connery when I see those seats!!
