5k: Foxy Body: 1979 Mercury Capri RS
In 1979 the Capri nameplate in the US switched from being a Ford of Germany import to a Fox-platform re-badged Mustang for Mercury dealerships. Oddly enough the German built Cologne V6 and odd sized TRX wheels & tires persisted in the Capri for a few years before production ended in 1986. Find this 1979 Mercury Capri RS for sale in Chardon, OH by the original owners. This RS has a few upgrades to the engine and should be good for some fun.
~ Ford 2.8, diy shift, only big objection (besides metallic buffalo-turd brown paint) is the TRX trap.
I like the flush-faced look and the fender bulges that differentiate this from the Mustang. Again, the TRXes would need to eventually go, and the 2.8 probably needs to be swapped for another Ford lump. Trying to picture how this would look with some police alloys on it. Wonder how hard it would be to stick in a SHO V-6 or a Supercoupe driveline. Much easier would probably be a nicely warmed 2.3 turbo with intercooler.
Coyote 5.0 or Sho eccoboost is where id lay my money if I had any… some details of the paint are a bit off. taped off the wheel lip when it shoulda bee the inner wheel well(Ibet the tape wouldnt stick) same with the door rubbers. Nice lookin car though and I dont think Ive ever seen an rs still equipped with its 2.8.
I've always liked the Capri, especially the fender flares. I'm sure someone has combined those with the Saleen effects to good measure.
This one is one of the cleanest Fox bodies I have seen in a long time. Hope it stays that way.
I had this car, except in Yellow. If I had the money I would buy this car and set it on fire simply because I wasn't able to do that with the one I had.
Bought it at a buy-here-pay-here lot because I was, at the time, driving a hand me down 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix. It did not get me any poon. I thought a Mustang look-alike would get me poon because in 1987/88 when I had my Capri Mustangs in North Georgia got you poon quicker than Europe got the black death when rats disembarked on ships.
Boy was I wrong. it was just an ugly yellow fake assed Mustang wannabe (at least to all the girls with poon to give).
Not to mention at a buy here pay here lot I ended up paying over $3 grand – in 1980s dollars. As a teen.
I finally joined the Army. To treat myself after my first tour I bought a real Mustang – a 1965 Convertible. Red of course.
