5k Flash: StrokeS: 1987 Porsche 944S with 3.0 swap

The Porsche 944 lives in the small gap between the slower Audi powered 924 and the more expensive to own and drive 968.  Speed freaks tend to prefer the 944 turbo version, but we think the 3.0 liter engine (from the S2) makes more sense than the blown version and almost as much power.  Find this 1987 Porsche 944S with a swapped 3.0 liter engine for $6,000 via autotrader in Albuquerque, NM.

The 944 isn’t a bad looking car, especially when covered in arrest-me red and wearing stock Porsche wheels.

We really like the idea of the 3.0 inline-4 instead of the turbo engine, because it should last longer, and makes 208 horsepower (the turbo version makes 217hp).  At the time of its introduction it was the largest displacement 4-cylinder production engine and was equipped with dual overhead cams and a 16 valve head.

The 944 continues to be on our short list of cool cars for cheap and this one looks to have had some decent upgrades, but will it break your checking account with the price of Porsche parts??
