5k Flash: 1965 Volkswagen Type 3 Variant (Squareback)

The Volkswagen Type 3 was an attempt by Volkswagen to repurpose its Beetle components in a new body to expand market share in the early 1960s.  The Type 3 variant was known colloquially as the Squareback and sold under the Volkswagen 1500 nameplate in the US, and today has a significant cult following.  This 1965 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback is for sale in Hollywood, CA for the bargain price of $3200 via craiglist.

 The Type 3 Squareback is probably the most useful of Beetle variants before you step up to a type 2 Transporter.

 The air-cooled horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine displaces 1.5 liters and puts out 45 horsepower in stock form.

 The interior looks better than just about any $3000 car we’ve ever purchased…

The custom 2-tone paint job, chrome wheels and over-tinted windows detract from the value, but we still think this car is a steal.  What do you think?  Comments below:
