The Volkswagen Type 3 was an attempt by Volkswagen to repurpose its Beetle components in a new body to expand market share in the early 1960s. The Type 3 variant was known colloquially as the Squareback and sold under the Volkswagen 1500 nameplate in the US, and today has a significant cult following. This 1965 Volkswagen Type 3 Squareback is for sale in Hollywood, CA for the bargain price of $3200 via craiglist.
The Type 3 Squareback is probably the most useful of Beetle variants before you step up to a type 2 Transporter.
The air-cooled horizontally opposed 4-cylinder engine displaces 1.5 liters and puts out 45 horsepower in stock form.
