5k: Euro Market Classic: 1981 Mercedes-Benz 230TE W123
The Mercedes W123 series was the predecessor to the modern E-class
sedan and is known as one of the most rugged cars ever built with
examples running millions of miles all around the world. A W123 won’t win any competitions involving speed or handling, but
if you ever need a car to play tortoise to all the other hares, this is
it. Expect the engine to outlast just about everything else on the
road and the chassis will take an amazing amount of abuse and just keep
on ticking. Find this 1981 Mercedes-Benz 230TE W123 offered for $6,000 in San Marcos, CA via craigslist.
In the 2.7 million car production run there were many versions of the W123. This one is the 230TE, a 2.3 liter M102 gasoline inline-4 powered wagon that was rated at 134 horsepower and 148 ft-lbs of torque when new. It was never available in the US market when new, so this will be one of a few opportunities to pick one up. See a better European born longroof for less? tips@dailyturismo.com
All of the German makes have some model that they did before they jumped the shark in terms of complexity and material quality, the W124 like the E34 was probably the last/best design before material quality started downhill, the W210/E39 was prettier and nicer but a little less robust, and apres moi le deluge.
So this is nice, but a good W124 would be nicer still…
Long damn listing for a W124 diesel wagon as fast as the DT Otto-cycle W123
If I finish reading the linked listing before Friday I might have a new daily driver. Or maybe not.
Oh wait, that's a Caitlyn Jenner Diesel. Never mind.
Now I'll hear from Stan…
LOL! Great post, that's so Wong…
One poor picture and a snarky attitude. GLWTS.
