5k: 5-Speed Manual: 1992 Lexus SC400
The first generation Lexus SC (and its JDM cousin, the Toyota Soarer) was built from 1991-2000 using sheet metal designed in California and mechanical parts similar to a Mk IV Supra. The high spec version (SC400) of the Lexus badged sport coupe eschewed the twin-turbo inline-6 from the Supra and instead used a V8 borrowed from the Crown & LS400. Lexus sold the inline-6 version (SC300) with a 5-speed manual, but the only way you could get the V8 was with a slushbox…until now. Find this 1992 Lexus SC400 with 5sp manual offered for $7,000 in Santa Ana, CA via craigslist. Tip from Mike.
The SC400 was a good looking car when originally built and
it still looks surprisingly good today. Clean lines and classic 2+2
proportions make the SC a future classic in the making, and prices haven’t seen a Fast-n-Furious bump like the Mk IV Supra.
The SC400 is powered by a 4.0 liter 1UZ-FE V8 engine, putting out 250
horsepower and 260 ft-lbs of torque. Gone is the stock 5-speed slushbox
automatic transmission, and in its place is a W58 5-speed manual box from the SC300/Supra non-turbo.
The seller has done more than swap the transmission, but also included a smorgasbord of other modifications, including a high end passenger foot massage/stereo system. It might be more of a stump massaging system because even Christina Aguilera isn’t going to fit her size 3s into the remaining space.

I know nothing about this car but this is one of the best transmission swaps, ever; up there with swapping a manual into a slushbox RX-7. That speaker placement in the footwell is stoopeedo. Looks like they did a nice job of it but what a waste (of talent, energy and money).
This specific car for sale, I mean. I know plenty about the SC.
Didn't mean that to sound…whatever.
What about swapping a manual into a slushbox RX-8?
This is a great swap…..I'm also partial to swaps that give you a manual transmission in a car where it wasn't otherwise available in that particualr market…..Others in this category for me include NA spec Range Rover Classics, e39 540i tourings, and e38 740i sports.
This is the owner of the SC400 manual. I'm super excited that my car featured here! But in response to your comment, K2; Isn't every car build a waste then? At the end of the day you don't get your money, energy, or time back. So my question is why do you build your car?
Anon — I don't think K2 was saying the entire build was a waste of time/talent/etc, just the stereo in the passenger footwell. And I think K2 builds his cars so he has somewhere warm to sleep at night…but don't quote me on that!
P.S. If you have more pictures of the car or details from the trans swap, send me an email email@example.com and perhaps I can make it into a full feature?
Oh….and the subwoofer placement that makes me a loner….apparently….for some reason….Well….IS: easily removable and stored in the trunk if you have a passenger!
But wait! what about the SC400 with a huge vertex body kit laying frame; is that owner also a loner?
But aside from all this I'm not the one with nothing better to do than commenting about the cars of others on the internet; i have better things to do…
@Anon; as the owner/builder(?) of a Miata with the entire trunk filled with a stupendously stupid woofer that negates any cargo carrying capability whatsoever, I resoundingly resemble that remark.
So we're two members of the same club. In fact, mine may be even more stooooopid than yours because at least you could put two people in the back seat, your car still has a trunk AND you could still use the front passenger seat for storage.
But why did you choose to put that there? Why not mount it somewhere else? BTW, it's a slick install, looks extremely well done. I hope you find a great home for your awesome car.
The 300ZX/G37 Coupe seems like a bit of an unintentional homage to the awesome SC/Supra cars. I like all of those cars but the G37 and SC always seemed to me to be the more rational choices in a DD.
El Jefe's point is a good one. I can and have fit a full sized mattress in the back of the Shadowagon.
Is it because I'm so d@mn opinionated and mouthy that I get yelled at on this one? There are other DTers that also fired shots…I get all the blame and no respect.
Respect? You came here and expected respect?
Came for the blame, stayed for the no respect.
Sorry, the comments were not directed towards K2, they were just a general response. The subwoofer placement in the footwell is there because this was my daily driver and I use the trunk. A sub would have also gotten in the way of the spare tire as well where I keep my tools.
Thanks for commenting back Vince, I'll get you more pics and info.
Thanks, Marvin. We all make our own choices; some, others agree with and some, others don't. In the end, who cares what they/I/we think! It will be interesting to see if it affects the sale of your car. You might just find somebody else who will use it just as you do and absolutely loves the placement. That would be awesome and I hope so.
Saw her live once. Unfreakin'believably amazing!
DT…where respect is not only earned, it comes with a side of fries. And syphilis.
Lordy I screwed up. I'm surprised nobody nailed me on it. I meant to compare the Z/G Coupe and the Supra/SC, as the 300ZX and the G37 Coupe never coincided, except in the alternative dimension where I live.
Outside of the front bumper, I'm not sure there's a worse place for that speaker.
Exterior looks clean with the Supra wheels though.
Methinks the owner is either quite the introvert, or just an extremely lonely person.
Same "school" of "thinking"….
I've been looking for one of these swaps. This would be just sublime as a DD.
Nice looking swap but could der dude not put der voofer in der probably never used back seat? Pretty optimistic not having a protective grill over the speaker unless as mentioned above he is a loner 😶
The only thing (and this is a relatively minor nit) is the 90's toyota interior beige. I just keep thinking Golden Girls and…Florida. The black interiors look so much better in the SC.
I agree, Rod. That interior color is horrible in a fabulous GT. It's worth looking for one with the black interior. I forget what it is but there's something about the combo of a black interior…maybe it was that you can't get a black interior with a black SC? That was probably it. Can't remember. Where am and how did I get here?
and you may ask yourself, where is that large automobile? and you may tell yourself, this is not my beautiful wife! same as it ever was.
Everything was okay
But then it all stopped making sense
So I turned on the television to drown out my girlfriend, who thought she was better than you
The heads on the screen just talked
My cousin had one with a factory 5 speed special ordered as a gift from aToyota exec.. He lived in Redwood city at the time and it is green over tan. He at the time told me it was the only one. Is that possibles?
You should simply to redo your settings relying upon what survey you need. Other cute highlights of the Lexus Car security marker is the capacity of warming or chilling off your vehicle temperatures when need be; this isn't all as you can do this even before you get inside your ride. car dealerships near me
