4X4 Snort Cute Vee: 1996 Toyota Rav4

I spent some time bashing front-wheel-drive automotive based crossover SUVs in the Suzuki Vitara post the other day…but if given the choice, would you take the Vitara over a Rav4? And what if that Rav4 was covered in the ultimate tribute to the 90s paintjob? Oh man. And it’s 4X4 instead of just rear-wheel-drive. This is a difficult decision. You tell me in the comments which compact sportish ugly vehicle you’d pick. Find this 1996 Toyota Rav4 4X4 offered for $4,500 in San Mateo, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Looks pretty nice for 200,000 miles and I love the yellow, but that black plastic lower body makes it look like it should convert into a boat. Or a Pontiac.
And is that a portable toilet attached to the spare tire or what?
If you can shoehorn the 269 hp 3.5 litre V-6 out of a later model RAV4 it would be a no brainer!
I hope this doesn’t sound pedantic, but it’s not actually 4×4, it’s AWD.
At least it has twice as many driven wheels as the Vitara.
Perfect light trail rider right there. Very rare to find, let alone in this excellent condition. Somebody is getting a nice driver there.
I’d take this RAV4 over the Vitara, although it’s close. The RAV4 may be car-based, but I’ve off roaded far less capable machines before. Neither one is likely to be very exciting on pavement, unless you add some boost… but I have seen a few crazies put 3S-GTEs into RAV4s.
I can feel how uncomfortable those back seats are just looking at them.
