4-Speed Cheapo: 1976 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The C3 generation of Chevrolet’s Corvette was introduced for the 1968 model year and is an iconic shape in any condition. The early cars with their chrome bumper and free breathing engines are the choice collector cars, but the later cars are cheap. Today’s Stingray has some needs before it becomes your Friday night car cruise machine, but it isn’t too far, and the price is cheap cheap cheap. Find this 1976 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray offered for $7000 in Campbell, CA via craigslist.

Well it’s all killamated so there is that.
Oh, on looking at the pictures I see that killamated is not a typo but is yet another brand of roofing underlayment.
Sound deadening a Corvette seems like a futile gesture. Redundant too if the engine won’t start.
How do these things drive? Are they a worthwhile project compared to the C4/C5? I’ve always thought the C3 looked good especially with the buttressed rear window and you can still pick them up for relatively cheap.
Corvettes at their worst. Even when fresh they provided squeaks, creaks, groans, bad body seams, low power, thirsty, Friday afternoon build quality….
I know that real Corvettes don’t have glove boxes, but that mitten mounter / map flapper thing is quite the eye irritation. Was that an option? I don’t remember those.
