2k Flash: Rare Venomous Italian Arachnid; 1976 Lancia Scorpion Spyder Project
The Scorpion was a mid-engined sports coupe from Lancia Automobiles S.p.A., and known in Europe as the Montecarlo (type 147). The Scorpion/Montecarlo is best known for its questionable handling, dodgy brakes and rust prone chassis. Not exaclty a glowing recommendation, but hey – this one is cheap…Find this 1976 Lancia Scorpion Sypder for sale in West LA, CA for $2000 via craiglist.
A Lancia Scorpion isn’t a particularly pretty car under normal circumstances, but this is far from normal and could be classified as a garage find or a wreck. This Scorpion qualifies as rare because it is one of 1,801 US market versions which were only sold between 1976 and 1977.
The engine lives in the rear of the Scorpion under a cool side opening hood/bonnett/trunk. The stock engine would have been a 1.8 liter inline-4, but according to the seller its been replaced with a 2.0 liter inline-4 that will need to be installed but has a California Bureau of Automobile Repair sticker authorizing it for CA Smog testing.
The seller was in the process of a restoration, hence the ‘parts-car’ appearance, but he claims the interior is ‘like a time capsule from the 1970s.’
We really dig the vintage Scorpion wheels – they look like something that belongs on the moon rover! You’ll need to have a garage, tools and a lot of time to bring this Lancia back from the dead. When done, you will have a unique & cool ride…but will you have any money left and will your wife have left you for her dentist? Only time will tell. If you don’t like this one, there is another Scorpion project on ebay, currently bidding for $1,725 with 1 day to go.

geeze………..
Wow, the Euro bumpers and lights, and the later glass buttresses really make a difference to these cars. Personally, of the two available, I like the one on E-bay much better. I wonder how hard it is to find and fit the Euro trim?
Bobinott
The type is a 137 for future reference , the moon rovers rims are known as bow ties ,and the euro trim can be had for about the 1.5k price. Rare is a seemingly understated since most of them died to rust crashing and conversion . There is only about 50-100 left in the US most of them are in Southern Georgia, Central Florida and California for reasons unknown. This puts them in the Endangered Cars List. Thou its not a pretty car, its a sexy car by all means, its a head turning, show stopping salon car and a Classic Italian car.
