26k Mile Romeo: 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra

Ford began phasing out the aging push-rod equipped 5.0 Ford V8 in the early 1990s, starting with the Lincoln TownCar in 1991, but in 1995 they still had a 5-point-oh V8 in the SVT Cobra Mustang. But that changed in 1996 when Ford put a hand-built 305 horsepower 4-cam version of their alloy 4.6 liter Modular-V8 in the front of the SVT Mustang. Mustang burnouts have only gotten better since that time. Find this 1996 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra offered for $16,000 in Augusta, GA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

Minor modifications:
Steeda short throw shifter
BBK off-road H pipe
Flowmaster super 44 mufflers
Ford Performance lowering springs
Maximum Motorsports caster camber plates
30 percent Xpel Prime XR Plus ceramic tintI am the fourth owner of this car and have driven it 2,000 miles. When I purchased it, the exhaust and short shifter were the only modifications. I had the lowering springs installed and a/c recharged at “Kurgan Motorsports” in Gainesville GA, the caster camber plates and alignment done at “Alignment Plus Automotive-Dyno-Performance” in Centerville SC, and the tint installed at Trapp Window Tinting in Martinez GA. All other maintenance was performed by me.

During my ownership of the cobra I have changed the oil/filter twice (last change was 100 miles ago for this sale), replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel pump, air filter, battery, and pcv valve. All but the battery were 24 years old and original to the car. Some did not necessarily need replacing, but preventative maintenance gives me peace of mind. I also purchased mil eliminators from 269 Motorsports and plugged them into the rear o2 sensors, which disabled the check engine light that was on due to the aftermarket exhaust. The spark plugs are NGK Iridium IX, fuel pump Walbro 255, and battery a Duralast size 59. The rest of the items are Ford Motorcraft OEM replacements. The wheels are in good condition with only a few imperfections. They have Toyo Proxes 4 Plus tires on them, 245/45/17. The tires have 80 percent tread level.

The car was repainted many years ago, sticking to its factory original color of black. The engine bay and trunk jamb were left untouched. The paint is not perfect but looks very good, as shown in the photos and videos. In the year 2000, CarFax reports minor damage to the front from an animal. All body panels are original and that is the only negative note on the CarFax from all 25 years. Mostly everything else on the car is factory original, including the clutch. As pictured, the car comes with a very cool collection of original documentation and knick-knacks, unfortunately excluding the SVT certificate. The original springs, shift assembly, battery cover, and antenna come with the car also. The spare tire and related parts have never been used.

Everything works as it should and looks great. Reason for sale is that I sadly no longer have the time or space for two cars. If you have any questions or requests please let me know. My phone number is show contact info . Text or call anytime.

The car is one thing. The spelling, grammar and punctuation are a whole ‘nother thing. Clean as a 1000-mile-a-year car! Oh, a quibble here and there: no commas after the names of towns; shop names in quotes; missed a capital on Cobra; a couple more. But, I mean, “drive-bys†and a proper “its†with no superfluous apostrophes. Nice!
The engine in these were particularly bullet proof as the long blocks could take a ton of (well maintained) abuse. A friend had one with a Vortech Supercharger, full exhaust, tuned, yadda-yadda and beat the snot out of it for years, both at the track and street racing. Never had an issue with it at all. I never cared for the body of this generation, but Ford did it right with the engine.
